Open For Farm Visits

Open

Cob Hollow Farm, like most alpaca farms, is a place that is open to visits. We prefer if you call ahead or message us on our Facebook page. When you do this we can make sure we are at the farm when you are coming to complete your farm visit. At the same time, we can make sure we have the carrots that are our alpacas love and will eat right out of your hand. Not to mention, this lets us know roughly how many people will be coming out as we have had large school groups out before and had to get everything properly prepared for the visit.

Now, if you do plan on bringing out a large group you do need to let us know for certain. That way we are able to get the animals prepared and make sure we have plenty of carrots for the alpacas. What else the advance notice does is makes it easier for us to make sure we have plenty of space for everyone while maintaining social distancing requirements. If you are looking at bringing a school group out to our farm we also need to have an accurate head count so we can get any handouts printed out for the kids.

While you may think that we do not accept walk-in visitors that is not the case. Most of our farm visits, definitely those coming from road trips, are from people who drive by and stop to see the alpacas. We have had people stop by from Greenfield, Maysville, and even as far away as Atlanta. One day we even had a couple who were visiting their family stop by to see the alpaca and they had traveled all the way from Bolivia.

Can Hand Feed Alpacas

Okay, now when you go to some alpaca farms you are unable to really get close to the animals or even get to see them up close. However, at Cob Hollow Farm our animals are not used for food which allows us some leeway. With that being the case, when you travel to our farm we tend to have carrots at the ready. The carrots the alpacas know are a great snack and one they can munch on when visitors are over. Well, the great news is the carrots make it easier for you to get the alpacas up to the fence. When they are at the fence you are able to simply reach your hand out and the alpacas will walk up and you can hand feed them.

The alpacas do not bite and while they do snatch the carrots it is generally very gentle to get the carrots to them. All you have to do is hold the carrots in your thumb and index finger. The alpacas take the carrot and then you can tell all of your friends that you have been able to hand feed an alpaca.

In addition to having plenty of animals for you to enjoy we have several gardens that are usually growing during the spring and winter time. Some of the produce from the gardens is for sale directly from the farm only and depending on the availability of the product.  If you decide to visit the farm around Halloween and even Christmas we do tend to decorate the outside of the house which can provide joy for the kids and put a warm smile on their faces.

Educational Experience For The Entire Family

I know you can go to a museum or the zoo to get an educational experience, but those places tend to cost money to get into. Not to mention if you are bringing your kids with you it can cost quite a bit of money as kids love the gift shops, food stands, and always want a drink. Then you can only look at the exhibits that are available and potentially have a chance to talk to a guide or a keeper, but that is not always a guarantee. When you visit Cob Hollow Farm or any other alpaca farm like our friends in Oregon at Stoneberg Alpacas you can talk with the people who are directly involved in the care of the animals.

When you start talking to us about our animals we have plenty of answers and enough time to make sure all of your questions are answered. Now, as far as print offs some farms do have them and others do not. At the same time, though, if you have a scheduled visit quite a few farms can prepare a presentation to make it easier for you to educate your kids or other kids with once you leave the farm.
